This was my first newborn session in my new studio and I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful it was! It felt like the perfect space for this sweet family who had just welcomed their baby girl a mere week before they had to pack to move out of the Charleston area. Dad played soccer for the Charleston Battery and was heading to a new team- and despite the pressures of moving with a brand new baby, both Mom and Dad were completely at ease during this session.

Benefits of a Studio Newborn Session

There are so many reasons to choose a studio newborn session for your family, but here are just a handful of the advantages from both a photographer’s and a Mama’s point of view!

Lighting

Often for at-home sessions, lighting is our biggest challenge. At the studio, we have consistent lighting with white walls that help bounce all of that natural light. It helps create that light and airy look that allows us to focus entirely on your brand new baby and all of those emotions that come with this sweet season of life without any other distractions.

We were graced with the most beautiful natural sunlight in the studio during this session- so much so that I could shoot some film in addition to digital images. I loved seeing the way the light and shadows reflected from the windows while Mom snuggled baby girl.

Ease and Convenience

The studio offers an easy location for brand new parents. There’s no stress about cleaning your home or clearing the clutter that naturally comes with a newborn at home. Maybe you are moving or not in your forever home- either way the studio is also a great option to make sure you document these early days with your baby.

I also have swaddles, tiny bows for girls, bonnets, and newborn clothing to choose from. There is a chair for nursing, a fully-stocked changing table, and burp cloths if needed!

Wardrobe Access

At the studio, you have the option to wear multiple looks that fit your style because we have access to every dress included in the Client Wardrobe. Just bring your sweet family, and I’ll help you with the rest.

For this session, Mom chose two different dresses which made for an easy change in the wardrobe room. I loved both looks they chose. The contrast between the darker tones and the soft whites in the second half of the session gives them so many options when printing their images for their home.

Shorter Session Time

Depending on how many feeding and diaper breaks baby needs, studio newborn sessions are typically shorter sessions than in-home newborn sessions. With consistent lighting, less distraction, and everything we need for baby right in the shooting space, we are able to efficiently work through the session workflow.

Timeless Images Without the Feel of a Typical Studio

One of the reasons I chose this historic space in downtown Charleston is that I wanted an untraditional studio. I wanted something unique yet classic while allowing it to feel like a true lifestyle session. My goal is to keep your connection as the focus with natural, candid moments, just like we would during any other session.
