As a family photographer in downtown Charleston, it doesn’t get much sweeter than this. Everything was in bloom for this family’s July session, and it was just so so pretty!

I met this wonderful family at one of my favorite streets downtown for a session while they were in town from Utah. They wanted to document their visit because Charleston is where they used to call home years ago. I can’t say I blame them! It’s hard not to have a soft spot for this city once you’ve lived here. The girls loved the pink flowers on Chalmers Street. Their little girl especially loved the pink houses, too!

Documenting Your Family Beyond the Toddler Years

I love when parents still prioritize documenting their little ones with family sessions, even when they aren’t so little anymore.

All of the kids were so great during their session and so eager to help Mom and Dad by being on their best behavior. It actually took a bit of finesse to get them to show their silly sides (I had to ask them to fake laugh at the end!!) but I love the portraits we got of each of them!

One of things I love most about photographing families with siblings is seeing each of their personalities. I know my own kids’ personalities are so different- so it’s really interesting to me see how similar yet different other siblings are too! Mom shared a little bit about their personalities the pre-session questionnaire so it really helped me prep beforehand. I love asking the kids about their favorite sports, movies, or hobbies. It really helps me learn what helps to get the good smiles! Usually for the little ones it’s Blippi or Bluey music, so for this crew it was fun to switch gears a bit!

The boys were so sweet with their sister, but I especially loved the relationship between the girls of the house. I mean, how could you not feel solidarity in a home full of stinky boys?! The portraits of the daughter laying in her mom’s lap were the most precious. I was also thrilled Mom and Dad were up for a handful of images of just the two of them. It’s not often we get good solo photos with our significant others after the wedding so I always prioritize it with family sessions!
