I was so excited when this sweet Mom told me she wanted to take dock photos at their family’s home in Old Village Mount Pleasant. As much as I love taking family photos at the beach or Hampton Park, there is just something special about having family portraits at home. These photos not only document the season your family is in but gives your children a tangible way to connect to their childhood memories.

This sweet family spends a lot of time on their grandparents’ dock. Mama told me when they visit, the kids love to fish with Dad, go on the water and just spend time as a family. And I could tell they were in their element! Big brother was telling me all about the animals they see off of the dock, it was so cute.

I always ask parents in the pre-session questionnaire if there is anything specific about their relationship or the kids they really want to document. For this one, Mom specifically mentioned how the kids like to hold hands and put arms around each other. Plus their sweet smiles of course! I definitely think we accomplished that – the bond between the two of them was SO sweet.

What to wear for your session | Family Photographer in Charleston, SC

When I was working on styling recommendations for this session, we knew it would be chilly on the water so sleeves were a priority. Mom ended up selecting a pink Rachel Pally maxi dress and it looked beautiful on her.

For family sessions in Charleston, their linen midi and maxi dresses are my go to when Mom wants to purchase her own dress. The longer length keeps you from worrying when you’re cuddling with kids or picking up your littlest for a hug!
